Silent Films

Lucky Douglas as , ” The Barker”

••••••

“A Walk in the Park”, just finished here in Regina Saskatchewan with Brandon Isaak. We are here playing for the WCMA awards but found a little time to lash together this little fun bit of business. We really enjoyed making this one and and you will see why!

“Lucky’s Dreams’, takes a rare glimpse into the workings of Lucky Douglas. The result, well you can find out. Sure Hope You Enjoy!

“Leap of Faith, filmed while on the road with good friend and cohort in music and often in film, Brandon Isaak or as he is now called Chubby Callaway. Enjoy!!

Nasty Nephew, filmed here at Hek’s Half Acre is the latest in the Life of Lucky Douglas. He really has a hard time in this short film. A little over seven minutes, it is on the long side compared to the average here. We enjoyed every minute of the making of it and we Sure Hope You Enjoy!

*
“Clean Wallet, Clear Conscience”, I am proud to say I started this film at Louis Armstrong’s house in Queens NY and finished it here at the old Hek’s Half Acre Studio grounds. Many friends joined me in the making of this short and we had a lot of fun in the making of it. Sure Hope You Enjoy!

“Soup De’jour” filmed on July 11 2012 is the return of Brandon Isaak to silent film. We had an absolute ball filming this little ditty, several takes had to be done over again as a result of on set laughter. We truly hope you enjoy this road film as much as we do.

*
“Soul Fishing”, was filmed July 10th 2012 whilst on the road in beautiful Pender Harbor with the great Edward Isaak. It was a real family affair as his wife Donna and his son Brandon were present and helping notating with Brandon’s wife and daughter. A real treat to film. Please enjoy!!

*

“Picture Perfect”, a film to scratch an itch. I’ve been working, since New York, on a longer film with a star studded cast. It is all but in the can with just one technical difficulty keeping it hemmed in till August. In the mean time here is a little ditty I wrote to scratch my itch. Hope you enjoy viewing this short film as much as we enjoyed the making of it here at Hek’s Half Acre Studios.

“Sunday Paper,” was shot whilst on a tour of Europe this past May. Filmed in the city of Hamburg Germany with friend and drummer Jesse Cahill playing the roll of the Brute. Enjoy!
•••••

*
“The Wrong Address”,is a little piece I put together with the Boy whilst home from the road about April 20,2012. Very seldom do I have time to put a set together but this is a Hek’s Half Acre Production done on Studio Premises. Enjoy!!
•••••

*
“The Picnic”, is a Hek’s Half Acre Production done on site of the studio. Another film I got a chance to make a set and take a little more time to prepare. Film done in April 2012. Enjoy

*
“A Ride In The Park”, The first of five Shorts I put together whilst on tour of Europe with Cousin Harley. Filmed near Eindhoven, Netherlands. Enjoy!!

•••••••••

*
“The Dummy”, was filmed in a Hotel room in Calgary or Edmonton Alberta I forget. It is one of many Brandon Isaak and myself put together whilst touring Western Canada this past March 2012. I think B,” that’s how I refer to my friend Brandon), did a really exemplary job of the Dummy. That is not an easy task. We had a ball making this little short. Hope you enjoy!!
••••••••

*
“The Thumb Waiter”, was inspired by a joke my father used to tell my sisters and I around the table at home in Richmond. This is the Debut of Dad in film. I think he did a swell job. Another Hek’s Half Acre Studio’s Production done on site and off the road. Enjoy!!!!

*
“The Delivery”, has another appearance of The Brute(Jesse Cahill). Filmed in Western Europe, again on the recent CH tour in May 2012 we had a lot of fun with this one. Filmed just prior and post a gig in the Netherlands. I had to have two translators to help direct the dear little Dutch boys who also aided in some of the filming. Enjoy!!

*
“Hazards of Hitchin'”was filmed on the outskirts of the Beautiful ancient town of Maastricht,Netherlands in the wee hours of the morning just prior to heading to Germany. My friend Roy had said at a CH gig the night before that he had a cool car I might want to use in one of my short films. Though it was not of the era of traditional silent film I spent the night thinking of a gag to use it in. The Hazards of Hitchin’ is the result of a restless nights sleep pondering the premiss of the gag. Sure hope you enjoy!!

••••

*

“A Stroll & A Smoke”, filmed in Rumst Belgium. A short inspired by the lovely waitress and the ice bucket. We shot this gag just prior to show time. What fun we had. Hope you enjoy!
••••

*
“Safe Travels”. This is the first of three Brothers Ford westerns B and I filmed in March 2012. The exploits of this unsavory duo are not comical in the classic tradition but are more dramatic in nature. We had perhaps the most fun making these films. Like kids with toys. Sure Hope You Enjoy!
••••••

*
“Bank on It”, the second of three.
•••

*
“Delirious”, by far my favorite of the trilogy. I can’t wait for the forth edition. Should be this summer if all goes as planned. I hope you enjoy this as much as we enjoyed making them. Keep in mind these are not comedies albeit the horse scenes are funny but they were never meant to be.

*
“A Strong Cup A Joe”, was inspired by my dear, dear friend John Martin. A second world war veteran of the First Canadian Airborne Division and my best friend. A hell of a man, strong as a bull, smart and a whip, funny as Groucho, and my personal hero. Working with him ,as a young man, he would tell me spirited stories of his life and times. A Strong Cup A Joe is my take on one of his many tales. Sure Hope You Enjoy!

*
“A Close Shave”, in some YouTube circles our most popular film with almost 8000 views. Again this is shot with friend Brandon Isaak on the road in Kamloops British Columbia in front of a dozen on lookers, and two patrons in the throws of hair cuts themselves we had a blast tossing this one together. I’ve had this thought for awhile and finally got it on film. This ideas is blooming again in a longer film I’m currently working on. Sure Hope You Enjoy!

*
“The Hopeful Dandy” a sad story I’ve lived myself over and over and over agian in different ways. Shot on the road in Revelstoke British Columbia, also the site of the first Brothers Ford effort. Sure Hope You Enjoy!
•••

*
“The Hit”. On the road with Brandon Isaak we couldn’t resist doing a little dramatic bit just before turning in one night as we had just acquired firearms and were eager to use them. I just set the camera and went. Sure Hope You Enjoy!

*
“The Talent Show”, a very unique short film thrown together on a sleepless night in Penticton British Columbia. Brandon Isaak and I had finished our show at the Dream Cafe and we felt like making a little film. We lacked any clear ideas of any gags, bits, or stories. We just filmed a number of unrelated scenes and figured at least we might have some decent stock footage for future use. After turning in I went to work on the clips and formulated a loose story with them. By morning all we had to do was pile into the apartment’s washroom with banjo and bass to record the soundtrack. I like it, Brandon likes it and it is Jesse Cahill’s wife’s ,favorite. If Kelly likes it it must be a bit of alright as she is a professional at judging talent being head of the music department at one of this countries finer educational institutions.
Sure Hope You Enjoy!

•••
High Stakes”, another Isaak/ Picot effort. We filmed this in March 2012 in a hotel room somewhere in Western Canada, just where exactly I can’t say at the moment. I’ll have to check with B. this was a heap of fun. Sure Hope You Enjoy!

“The Fiend II”. This is the first character I ever created for silent film. This dear man has very few aspirations in life save getting plenty of wine down his throat. Filmed about two years ago on the road in Port Townsend WA, with the Twisters. There was several gags filmed that night and thus is the second of the two we kept. If anyone has interest the first one is easy to find on YouTube. Sure Hope You Enjoy!
•••

*
“The Fiend III”. This little piece was very much a brain child of Brandon Isaak and myself. Brandon has lots of swell ideas. Enjoy!

“The Fiend IV” The last Fiend installment. I had a blast with this one. My dear wife Haley was behind the camera for much of the scenic scenes and the rest was Brandon and I again Port Townsend ,WA.

Thanks for watching.

Sincerely

My husband and I really enjoyed your Dagwoods Diner advertisement at the Fritz movie theatre and subsequently went to the diner where we met your wife and she gave us your blog information – am looking forward to veiwing all your movies and hope someday when we’re back on SSI (we’re from Calgary but visit every summer) to get the opportunity to hear you play.

Sandra Bryant – please say hello to your wife (I’m the one in the wheelchair)
